Description
Saturn's moon Titan, Cassini image. This night-side view of Titan shows the haze of its atmosphere as the moon is backlit by the Sun. Titan's high-altitude haze layer (blue) is thought to contain smaller particles than the main atmospheric haze (orange). Titan is the largest moon of Saturn. Titan's atmosphere is predominantly nitrogen, with sunlight causing traces of methane to form clouds of complex hydrocarbons, with liquid hydrocarbons on the surface. This image was taken from a distance of around 1.2 million kilometres, using red, green and blue spectral filters. It was obtained on 29 May 2017, with the narrow-angle camera of Cassini's Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS). The Cassini spacecraft has been surveying the Saturnian system since 2004, with its mission scheduled to end in September 2017.
