Description
Oil refinery. Tankers outside an oil refinery. Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons. These are separated by boiling the crude oil in distillation towers (centre). The products of distillation then go through further processes, including purification, cracking, reforming and desulphurisation. Photographed at the BP Amoco oil refinery, Whiting, Indiana, USA.
