Description
Environmental radiation monitoring. Health Protection Agency worker using a monitor to test for radiation levels. She will also sample river sediment for testing. Most natural radiation is due to cosmic rays from space, and radon, a radioactive gas produced by the decay of radium from uranium ores. Human sources of radiation include nuclear power stations and pollution from coal-fired power stations. Photographed on the banks of the River Clyde in Scotland, with the Erskine Bridge in the background.
