Description
Storm on Saturn, Cassini images. These two horizontal near-infrared mosaics of swirling storm clouds on Saturn were taken about 11 hours (one Saturn day) apart. Each contains 48 images taken over a period of 2.5 hours, with the top mosaic obtained first. The temperature (wavelength) of the infrared increases from blue to green to red. This storm is located in Saturn's northern hemisphere, and the area shown in each mosaic is tens of thousands of kilometres across. Such storms can end up circling the whole planet. This imagery was obtained on 7 August 2011, by the narrow-angle camera on the orbiting Cassini spacecraft.
