Description
Lithium-ion crystals, coloured scanning electron microscope (SEM). Lithium-ion technology is commonly used in rechargeable batteries for electrical equipment. The energy is stored in the battery through the movement of lithium ions. The first commercial lithium-ion battery was produced in 1991.The three primary functional components of a lithium-ion battery are the positive and negative electrodes and electrolyte. Generally, the negative electrode of a conventional lithium-ion cell is made from carbon. The positive electrode is a metal oxide, and the electrolyte is a lithium salt in an organic solvent. Magnification: x1300 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
