Description
Jumping spider head. Close-up of the head of an ant-mimic jumping spider (Myrmarachne sp.). Jumping spiders (family Salticidae) stalk their prey before leaping on it from a few centimetres away. Myrmarachne sp. jumping spiders look very similar to, and mimic, ants. The large chelicerae (right) are pincers that are used to tear up its food. Either side of these are the two palps, sensory structures for feeling and manipulation.
