Description
Grand Canyon. This view is at Point Imperial on the North Rim of the canyon. The Grand Canyon is the world's largest gorge. It formed as the Colorado River eroded down through uplifting beds of soft sedimentary rock. The canyon is over 440 kilometres long and in places is over 1.5 kilometres deep. The oldest rocks, exposed at the bottom of the canyon, are some two billion years old.
