Description
Dinosaur extinction asteroid. Computer illustration showing the asteroid that hit Earth about 65 million years ago and may have led to the extinction of the dinosaurs, as it approaches Earth. The site of the impact is the Yucatan Peninsula, which is now bordered by: Florida, Cuba, Mexico & South America. Evidence of the impact has been found, dating it at the boundary between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods (K/T boundary). Scientists believe that the asteroid was up to 20 kilometres in diameter, and that the impact created months of total darkness and decades of low global temperatures.
