Description
Light microscopy of a small muscular artery (upper left centre) and a larger vein. The artery shows a thick wall composed of several layers of smooth muscle cells (called the tunica media) bordered by a thin darkly staining inner and outer elastic lamina. The wall of the vein is much thinner and consists of one layer of smooth muscle and a variable amount of elastic laminae. Both vessels have blood within them and inside the vein, blood plasma appears green. Connective tissue around each vessel is the tunica adventitia. Magnification x 160 when printed at 10cm.
