Description
Arteritis. Coloured angiogram of the back view of the legs of a 58 year old patient with arteritis. Arteritis is a disease where the walls of arteries become inflamed, usually as a result of infection or auto-immune response. Seen here are the arteries of thighs (top left), knees (bottom left), calves (top right) and feet (bottom right). Severe stenoses (restrictions) can be seen in the arteries of the right leg. Limited blood flow in the leg can result in necrosis (tissue death) or gangrene. An angiogram is an X-ray technique that uses a contrast dye to highlight blood vessels.
