Description
Met Office communications. Met Office workers using a teleprinter to transmit weather reports and forecasts to Europe using the IMTNE network (International Meteorological Teleprinter Network Europe). The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history. Teleprinters allow typed messages to be sent as a signal and printed at the receiving end. These teleprinters also use punched tape inputs and outputs, as seen here. Photographed in 1962, at the Met Office headquarters at Bracknell.
