Description
Wormwood, or absinth, herb (Artemisia absinthium), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This is a bitter herb which has medicinal uses. Preparations are used as a tonic, and can also remove intestinal worms. It also improves the appetite and aids digestion. The essential oil from this plant is used to flavour the alcoholic drink absinthe. Consuming too much of the oil can lead to hallucinations and convulsions. Magnification: x55 when printed 10 centimetres high.
