Description
Titan. Composite satellite image of Titan, one of Saturn's moons. Nine processed images have been combined to give the most detailed full-disc view of the moon to date. Titan was discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655. It is the largest of Saturn's moon and is the only moon in our Solar System that has a fully developed atmosphere that consists of more than just trace gases. This image was taken as part of the Cassini-Huygens mission, which launched in 1997 with the purpose of studying Saturn and its moons. Image taken on 26 October 2004 at distances between 650,000- 300,000 kilometres by a narrow angle camera aboard the Cassini orbiter.
