The Arctic at equinox. Satellite image of the Earth centred on the North Pole, seen at 12:00 (noon) GMT (UTC) at an equinox between winter and summer. Arctic sea ice is white, oceans are blue and land is green and brown. City lights (yellow) in dark areas show areas of dense population while those that are more sparsely populated have fewer lights. Image obtained using data from Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 satellites.
