Description
Static electricity experiment. 19th-century illustration of an artificial spider (centre, hanging from thread) being repelled and attracted using static electric charge on a glass tube. This experiment is a recreation of one carried out by US scientist Benjamin Franklin. This illustration, part of a section titled 'Experiences de Physique sans Appareils' (illustrating popular physics experiments that don't require the use of laboratory equipment), is from 'Physique Populaire' (Emile Desbeaux, 1891).
