Description
Franklin Silk Company bank note. This undated and unsigned bank note dates from around 1830. It was printed to the value of 1 US dollar by the Franklin Silk Company of Franklin Township, Portage County, Ohio, USA. This area (then called Franklin Mills) was the intended home of the Franklin Silk Company. The business (factory at upper centre) failed following the financial crisis known as the Panic of 1837. At top left is the US statesman and scientist Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) studying lighting in 1752. Individual company bank notes such as this were replaced by the federal US paper currency issued by the US Treasury in 1861.
