Description
SpaceX Crew Demo-1 approaching the ISS in Earth orbit, March 2019. SpaceX Demonstration Mission 1 (SpX-DM1) launched on 2 March 2019. This was the first orbital test of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, intended to take crew and cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch took place as part of NASA's commercial crew program (Commercial Crew Development). The Crew Dragon 2 spacecraft successfully docked to the ISS on 3 March 2019. It was not crewed, instead carrying a test dummy. In the foreground are portions of the ISS Harmony module, the Kibo laboratory module, the Canadarm2 robotic arm, and the Dextre 'robotic hand'.
