Description
South American common toad (Rhinella margaritifer) on the forest floor. These toads have extremely effective camouflage that mimics the dead leaves and leaf litter that they spend most of their time in. They trust their camouflage enough to sit completely still for long periods, even when predators are near by. Photographed in the Amazon rainforest at the Tiputini Biodiversity Research Station, Ecuador.
