Description
Rome. Infrared satellite image of Rome (blue, centre), capital of Italy. North is towards upper left. Vegetation appears red, water black and bare ground pale blue. The River Tiber (Tevere) flows through Rome and into the Tyrrhenian Sea at lower left. North-west of Rome is the large circular Lake Bracciano (Lago di Bracciano), while to the south-east is the Alban Hills Volcano (Colli Albani). In this crater are two crater lakes: the larger Albano Lake (Lago Albano) and Nemi Lake (Lago di Nemi). Rome is surrounded by fields, with mountains to the north-east. Image taken by an American Landsat Satellite on 30 March 1993.
