Description
Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) perching on a rock. This falcon mainly preys on birds in flight, but also occasionally hunts small mammals. It catches birds by diving at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and striking the quarry with its talons, it then swoops back up to catch the falling bird. The bird, which can reach up to 50 centimetres in length, breeds throughout the world except Antarctica. Photographed in April in Surrey, UK.
