Spring onion. Bunch of harvested spring onions (Allium fistulosum). These onions are also called Welsh onions and Japanese bunching onions. The onion is a vegetable native to Asia, but it is now cultivated worldwide in temperate and subtropical regions. It is highly versatile, and is eaten raw, cooked, in salads or used to add flavour to a variety of dishes. They contain a range of vitamins and minerals.
