Description
Motor effect demonstration. Image 2 of 2. Apparatus used to demonstrate the magnetic field produced when an electric current is passed through a coil of wire. A length of wire was coiled around one pole of a permanent magnet. When a current was passed through the wire, a magnetic field was induced in the coil. The magnetic field of the permanent magnet repelled that of the coil, causing the wire to jump off the magnet. For an image of the apparatus before the current was supplied, see image: C001/9673.
