Description
Molybdenum-based oil additive (Molyslip) on a metal surface. Examples of this class of oil additive typically contain the inorganic compound molybdenum disulphide (MoS2), which is a sulphide of the transition metal molybdenum (Mo). Molybdenum disulphide is a solid, not a liquid, and is an example of a solid lubricant. It contains sheets of sulphur (S) atoms that are weakly bonded and slide easily over one another. Molybdenum-based oil additives are used to reduce friction in engines and other moving parts in machines, increasing fuel economy and efficiency.
