Description
James Paget (1814-1899), British physician and one of the founders of modern pathology. Paget discovered that the disease trichinosis was caused by the larvae of a parasitic nematode worm. He was the first to describe osteitis deformans (Paget's disease), a chronic bone disease that leads to an increased risk of fracture. Paget was also surgeon to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1851, and made a baronet in 1871. This photograph was published in 'Medical profession in all countries containing photographic portraits from life' (volume 1, 1873) by the Barraud and Jerrard photographic studio.
