Description
Benedict's solution. Laboratory bottle of Benedict's solution with a dropper and beaker. This solution is used in laboratories to test for the presence of sugars. Also known as Benedict's reagent, it is a solution of copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4), tartaric acid and sodium hydroxide. In the presence of sugars, the copper sulphate is reduced to insoluble copper (I) oxide. The hazard label (black cross on orange background) indicates that the reagent is harmful.
