Description
Automatic weather station with tourists. Sensors include an anemometer (far right), air temperature and humidity sensors (white, centre right), and a solar radiation sensor (vertical rod, centre). The other measurements include ground temperature and rainfall. Data is logged (white box, lower right) and transmitted (radio antenna, upper right) to an archive. This automatic weather station, in North Carolina Arboretum, is part of the US Climate Reference Network, started in 2001. The network should number 100 stations by 2006. Each station sends data hourly to a national archive. Regular climate records will allow better research into global climate change.
