Artist's Description
Wright Brothers flying machine patent, 1906. Sheet 1 of 3 of the patent filed by US aviation pioneers Orville Wright (1871-1948) and Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) for their design for a flying machine. The Wright brothers produced a series of Wright aircraft models, starting with their Wright Flyer that made the first successful flight by a heaver-than-air machine (1903). The historic flight took place on 17 December 1903, though the first public demonstration flights did not take place until 1908. US attorney Harry Aubrey Toulmin (1858-1942, signature at lower right) acted on their behalf in the ensuing patent wars. This is patent number 821,393 from the US Patent Office, dated 22 May 1906.
