Description
World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, USA, with a captive balloon (left) and Ferris wheel (right) among the attractions. Also known as the Chicago World's Fair, this exposition was held in Chicago from May to October 1893. It was a celebration of American culture and society, commemorating Columbus' voyages to the Americas 400 years earlier. More than 27 million visited the exposition, which included some 200 exhibits and buildings. This gelatin silver print is from a photograph by US photographer Charles Dudley Arnold (1844-1927).
