Artist's Description
False-colour radar image of the surface of the Ovda Regio on Venus, made by the Magellan radar- mapping spacecraft in early 1991. The image shows wind streaks in the surface material. This material is thought to have been ejected from crater Mead, some 500km away. Mead is the largest meteorite impact crater on Venus, being about 275km in diameter. It is not yet known whether it is the radar-bright or radar-dark material that is being blown across the surface, so the winds may be either from the north-west or the south-east. This image is a mosaic of data gathered over 5 orbits, and shows an area approximately 100km by 70km in size.
