Artist's Description

Water contamination test procedure. 1931 photograph showing the three steps to be taken in the examination of water for bacteria. Left to right: removing the water sample from the bottle; placing the sample onto a culture plate; inoculating broth tubes with water samples. This was one of a series of instructional images used by the Minnesota Board of Health, USA, to train state public health workers. The purpose of the images and the associated training was focused on keeping potable water supplies free of harmful bacteria in order to prevent disease.
