Description
MODEL RELEASED. Washing at a refugee camp in a rural region of Gulu, Uganda. Mother washing her child over a bowl of water. The child's distended abdomen is a sign of malnutrition and lack of food, a condition known as kwashiorkor. Northern Uganda is the site of an armed rebellion by the Lord's Resistance Army. The intensity of the conflict has increased since 2002, and many people have been displaced by the fighting. These people often migrate to camps known as displacement persons camps, which house local refugees (called 'internally displaced people').
