Description
Waning, 22-day-old moon. The bright, rayed craters are Copernicus (centre), with Kepler to its left & Aristarchus appearing as the small bright spot towards top left. The dark regions or seas" are the Mare Imbrium to the east (right) of Aristarch- us & the Oceanus Procellarum south-west of Arist- archus. Tycho is the small prominent crater near the bottom. The arc of the Apennine Mountains stands out near the terminator, forming the south- east limit of the Mare Imbrium; the Apennines stretch over some 720 kilometres & rise to heights of some 6000 metres.
