Artist's Description
Walter Dill Scott (1869-1955), American psychologist. Scott was one of the first to apply psychology to business problems. Despite criticisms from academic colleagues who believed that psychology should remain true to its philosophical roots, Scott was keen to extend his expertise to providing practical solutions. He wrote several books detailing the applications of psychology to advertising and salesmanship. During World War I he applied his principles to personnel selection in the army, for which he received the Distinguished Service Medal. This portrait is from the Bain News Service, one of America's oldest news picture agencies, which holds images dating from the 1890s to the 1930s.
