Description
Coal-fired power station. View of the High Marnham coal-fired power station reflected in a field which has been flooded by the nearby River Trent. Two chimneys can be seen in the background (centre left). In the foreground are cooling towers and the main block of the power station (centre left). This station burns coal to heat water, which drives a turbine, which generates electricity. The water is eventually cooled by spraying it into the cooling towers. Burnt coal is a source of carbon dioxide which is a factor in global warming. Photographed in Nottinghamshire, UK.
