USS Sam Rayburn. View of the open tubes for Polaris missiles onboard the USS Sam Rayburn (SSBN-635) ballistic missile submarine whilst undergoing tests. Here, the hatch covers are coloured and numbered in billiard ball-style. The Sam Rayburn was in commission from 2nd December 1964 to 31st July 1989. It originally carried the Polaris missile and later the Poseidon missile. Photographed at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, Virginia, USA, circa 1964-65.
