Uranus from Miranda. Artwork of the planet Uranus seen behind towering ice cliffs on Miranda, one of its moons. Miranda is a small moon, less than 500 kilometres in diameter, but some of its cliffs are over 20 kilometres high. It is thought that it has been shattered and reformed several times in its past. Miranda orbits Uranus at a distance of around 130,000 kilometres, taking a day and a half to complete one orbit. Uranus is unusual in that it rotates on its side, so the entire system seems to roll around its orbital path. This view, with the Sun shining on Uranus' pole, will next be seen in 2029.
