Description
The image shows bunches of Merbein Seedless white grapes which are cultivated for the Sultana dried fruit industry in the Keimoes region of the arid Northern Cape of Southern Africa. Although Merbein Seedless produces higher yields, it requires more care during the harvest and drying process. Merbein Seedless is an extremely vigorous grower which tends to produce more consistent yields than the Sultanina, which is the other variety grown in the region. The Orange river which passes through the area provides ample water for farming operations covering 17 000 hectares of vines which are planted along a 350km stretch of the River. The backlighting has resulted in the grapes being translucent.
