Artist's Description
Tracks of the Curiosity rover on Mars. View looking back at a dune that NASA's Curiosity Mars rover drove across three days earlier. The distance between the parallel wheel tracks is about 2.7 metres. The dune is about 1 metre tall in the middle of its span across an opening called 'Dingo Gap' (see C023/5796). This view looks eastward. The Curiosity rover is part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. It landed on Mars on 6 August 2012, on a mission to investigate the Martian climate and geology. Image obtained with the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on 9 February 2014.
