Tour de France stage. Satellite image of the area of the central French Alps that hosted the 16th stage of the 2004 Tour de France on 21 July. The 15 kilometre long individual time trial stage started at Bourg d'Oisana, 718 metres above sea level, and finished at L'Alpe d'Huez, 1850 metres above sea level. It was one of the toughest stages and almost all uphill. The stage was won by Lance Armstrong, who went on to win the Tour de France for a record 6th time. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 21 July 2004.
