Description
Thoracic vertebra (T6), artwork. This is the vertebra's upper (superior) surface. The frontal (anterior) surface is at top, and the rear (posterior) surface at bottom. The vertebral body is at upper centre (with half an intervertebral pad, grey), with the spinous process at bottom. At lower left and lower right are the transverse processes. The bony protrusions rising upwards next to the spinal cord (yellow) are the articular facets. The spinal cord passes through the central gap (the vertebral foramen). At left and right, spinal nerves branch off the spinal cord. There are 12 thoracic vertebrae in the upper back.
