Description
The Trinity Test, the world's first detonation of a nuclear weapon, on July 16th 1945 in the Jornada del Muerto in New Mexico. It was the culmination of the Manhattan Project, the American program to develop the atom bomb, undertaken by a multinational team of scientists & engineers who worked for two years under conditions of strictest secrecy at Los Alamos, New Mexico. The test involved the Fat Man" atomic fission bomb of the type later dropped over Nagasaki, Japan. The device was triggered using an implosion method in which a slightly subcritical mass of plutonium was compressed to supercriticality by high explosives."
