Description
The nothosaur dinosaur, Neusticosaurus sp. This is one of the earliest marine reptiles (from the Upper Triassic period). Nothosaurs had a slim body resembling that of a plesiosaur, a short skull, and few exceeded 1 metre in length. Most retained some features of land- dwelling reptiles. The Triassic period, lasting some 35 million years, and beginning about 230 million years ago, was witness to the return of shallow continental seas. In its warm climate, many new terrestrial and marine forms emerged. One of these was Neusticosaurus sp. found at Monte san Giorgio, on the Swiss/Italian border.
