Description
Fusobacterium necrophorum. Coloured transmission electron micrograph of Fusobacterium necrophorum, a Gram-negative, rod shaped anaerobic bacteria. Fusobacterium sp. are obligate animal parasites, forming part of the intestinal flora of a range of organisms from termites to primates, and including humans. This species is responsible for several diseases, such as necrotising tonsillitis, postangiral septicaemia and Lemierre's disease. The micrograph shows a single bacterium surrounded by typical outer membrane blebs and vesicles. Magnification x100,000 at 10x8 inch size. Negatively stained.
