Artist's Description

Telephone operators. Printed photograph of women at a telephone switchboard in the early years of the twentieth century. They are using headphones to listen to incoming calls, and using wires to make connections on the switchboard in front of them to re-route the calls to the required destinations. Printed in 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
