Astrology symbols. Eight cards from a tarot deck featuring astrological symbols. The four upper images represent the constellations of (from left to right): Aquarius, the water bearer; Leo, the Lion; Taurus, the bull; Gemini, the twins. The other four cards use astronomical objects in abstract illustrations. These images incorporate (from left to right): the Sun; a star; the Sun; an image of the Earth centred on Europe. A full tarot deck consists of 78 cards, of which 22 (known as the major arcana) have pictorial representations like these. The cards represent natural forces or human behaviour and are used in fortune- telling. Cards printed during the 19th century.
