Description
Synaptosomes, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Synaptosomes (light blue circles) are sac-like structures that form from pre-synapstic nerve terminals during the homogenisation of nerve tissue. They contain synaptic vesicles and mitochondria (darker blue), enclosed in a phospholipid membrane. Synaptosomes are used to study synaptic transmission.
