Swan Nebula (M17), combined optical and infrared VST image. This star-forming region is also known as the Omega Nebula. It is a collection of gas, dust and hot young stars is 5500 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Sagittarius. This image was obtained with the OmegaCAM on the VLT Survey Telescope (VST). Image published in 2011.
