Sulphur. Polarised light micrograph (PLM) of crystals of sulphur. Sulphur is a yellow non- metallic element in group IV of the Periodic Table. It is often found associated with oil deposits and with volcanic exhalations. Its main uses are in the manufacture of sulphuric acid, the vulcanisation (crosslinking) of rubber, and the manufacture of explosives, fungicides and fertilizers.
