Artist's Description
Illustration of a star explosion in a binary system. When a star runs out of fuel, it can collapse and explode in a supernova, leaving behind a hot dense neutron star (shown in blue-white). The neutron star may be classified as a magnetar if its magnetic field is particularly strong, the magnetic field is represented as blue lines. The shock wave (diffuse blue) from the explosion may impact on nearby, cooler accompanying stars (orange).
