Squatters in New York City. 19th-century illustration of a settlement of squatters in New York City near Central Park (opened 1857). The illustration shows farm animals and wooden shacks. Cakes are for sale at left, and lots of land are being advertised for sale (right). At centre is a street sign for 'Grand Street' and its ferry. Artwork by D. E. Wyand, published in the 26 June 1869 issue of Harper's Weekly, published in New York, USA.
